Wristwatch Auction Picks Tyler St. Gelais, Head of Wristwatches & Jewelry

Lot 65 | Marathon CSAR chronograph, ref WW194014, automatic w/box & extras Est. $1,600 - $2,200 Marathon has been supplying watches to the U.S. military since the 1970s, and the CSAR (Chronograph Search and Rescue) continues the legacy. Put this on your wrist and you can immediatley tell that it can handle anything you throw at it. Coming in at 49mm, this is an imposing, highlghy legible watch. Tritum tubes make night visiblity a piece of cake and are a fun party trick, while the workhorse Valjoux 7750 effortlessly ticks away as the perfect movement for a watch needing to keep up in the harshest enviroments.

Despite its rugged origins, this example presents in beautiful condition and comes with original packaging and a few extras, making it a great buy for anyone wanting a serious tool watch for their collection. View Lot 65

If you haven't had a bumper automatic in your collection, this is a great place to start. LeCoultre's Master Mariner line is a quintessential everyday watch that can be dressed up or down, coming in at a wonderful 35mm size. Unlike so many watches of the era, this model takes a "playful" approach to the dial with applied gold hour markers that are shaped like small bombs or arrowheads. No matter what they set out to accomplish when designing this dial, LeCoultre didn't just give us more batons, and we love it.

With an attainable estimate, great size, beautiful 14K case, unusual dial, and bumper movement, this one has tons of charm from a great brand that still puts out amazing timepieces today.

Lot 92 | Mido All Dial Chronometer, automatic Est. $300 - $600  Funky, fun, and extremely legible make this Mido a must for the collector who values an easy-to-read dial without the trope of selecting a white dial with black Arabic numerals. The titanium case is comfortable despite the larger size, and the bracelet could easily pass on a watch at twice the price point. The star of the show is the dial, giving off vinyl record vibes but with the high contrast of dual-colored numerals. The bracelet is on the small side, so collectors with wrists over 6.5" will need to source links or the appropriate strap (these are easily available) in order to fully enjoy this piece. Pocket Watch Auction Picks Fred Hansen, Head of Pocket Watches

Est. $1,400 - $2,200 Railroad timekeeping played a pivotal role in American watchmaking, and this Ball Hamilton Official Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen (BRT) Standard offers a direct connection to that history. This watch reflects the rigorous standards associated with railroad service, when accuracy and reliability were essential. The movement doesn't skimp on the finishing, either, featuring a gorgeous sunburst-pattern nickel damascene. With the "BRT" dial up front and the killer finishing on the rear, this Ball will be a wonderful addition to any American RR pocket watch collector's box.

Est. $3,600 - $4,200 The Waltham Riverside Maximus is the Cadillac of American pocket watches, offering a high-grade movement with truly impeccable finishing. The fully capped lever escapement and three visible diamond endstones further set it apart from other American watches at the time, and this example is housed in a beautiful 14K HC to complete the package.

This example should be on the short list of any collector who wants the best that American pocket watch manufacturing had to offer.

Est. $8,000 - $9,200 Here at Jones & Horan, we love chronographs, and this massive 18K Jules Jürgensen ticks all the boxes. The case and movement have matching serial numbers, which is nice for collectors who value a matching pair. Although the dial has been refinished, it easily makes up for it by being in excellent cosmetic condition. Once you feel this in the hand, it's easy to see why Jules Jürgensen has been so popular with watch lovers for the last 200+ years.
