Hamilton "4-Orbit" Model 221

DESCRIPTION: Hamilton, the first genuine "4-Orbit" Model 221 marine chronometer produced, s#4E001, of only 27 made by the factory in total according to Whitney, two-day fusee mechanism with spring detent chronometer escapement, AMAC balance and helical HS combination, astronomic or regulator dial style with separate minute, hour, date, winding indicator and seconds dials, the four orbits being the hour, seconds, date and sweep minute dials, as the winding indicator is bidirectional. The 4-Orbit Model was only produced in the 4E serial number range, and always marked "Model 221," unlike some Model 21 chronometers with analogous dials that are being created in Russia nowadays with the sub-dials in different positions, and serial numbers in different ranges, typically 2E. The chronometer comes in its original inner and outer boxes, the inner now with label for the Northwest Instrument Corporation. Fossette Collection.

DESCRIPTION: GRO, excellent escapement performance, near mint mvt condition save for some loss of letter blacking; dial in fine condition with some light staining, powder, scuffs and MFS, ample concealed bezel rub, hands in near mint black; tub in excellent condition, as is the inner box; the outer has split on top.
