- Rare and historically important colonial American English contract fusee for Garven
Brown, Boston, 50mm, coin silver OF original pair cases bearing London hallmarks
for 1761, KWKS, WED signed, "Brown, Boston," poker & beetle hands, verge
escapement, gilt mvt with pierced & engraved foliate scrolled balance cock
with finely pierced arcaded borders, s#202; while the majority of watches in the
English colonies were imported from England, very few ever bear the contract for
an American maker, let alone signed dial; these are the only watches that can be
identified with certainty as having been on American soil before the American
Revolution, Boston being among the most important locations for Revolutionary
activity; such watches were only property of the wealthy at that time, so this
watch probably came close to some very distiguished colonists, if not founding
fathers , Estimate: $3,000 - $5,000
