Condition Report For Lot# 579:
Mvt: GRO, good verge function, reasonably good gilding, some FS at pin sites, solder repair on cock; dial is finely painted with good surface but has faint hl through center and chips around center hole (see note below); hands are closely matched gold, hour seems to be replaced if any; original case shows medium wear, little tarnish, numerous MFS along with scratched number, some slight dings, break in middle of winding hole cover disc; original bow & pendant; good domed glass bull's-eye crystal; NOTE: only the calendar wheel is present, the system of advancing levers & leaf spring are absent, leaving three posts to account for; additionally, the dial from the back does show evidence in the counterenamel recession that there was indeed an aperture in the original firing, but other areas around the inset bezel show chipping to the same counterenamel where there was no such recession; this causes one to speculate that perhaps the aperture size or shape was changed; the animal disc looks to be of the period, but it is oddly placed and the underpainting of the plate for contrast seems like an afterthought; it is possible that such rough improvisation was simply part of making a fancy product for export, or was done later; nonetheless, it makes for an interesting visual effect and is not without comparable improvisational relatives of the period
Estimate: $1500 - $2500
