Condition Report For Lot# 489:
Mvt: GRO, good balance motion, good verge function, repeat function is a bit gummy, would hardly strike at all until the governor train was lubricated, now strikes but tends to hesitate a bit, and one has to hold the pendant in for a moment to allow the all-or-nothing to pass; as it is it will strike all 3 quarters at lower hours, but has difficulty getting out all quarters after 12:45 and only strikes 11 hours, further evidence of gumminess in the train and racks; the mvt has fine gilding with dried oil smear, few MFS, and a scratch by the signature; dial has fairly large chip at the winding that fortunately misses most of the 2 & 3 numerals; hands very fine original; original inner case shows light to medium even wear, with wear to the tops of the figural decorations indicating that the crystal for the outer was gone for a long time; there is little tarnish, a few MFS including a long one over the cupid's head, and very minor dings in the back, only one noticeable; bow & push show light wear; good glass crystal; outer shows light wear, complete tortoise with natural break at pendant joint, only one line at base, all pique rivets are there, the outer now with mid-19th century high-domed flat center crystal installed for protection (a continuous high dome would be correct)
Estimate: $2200 - $3500
