APW - Waltham model 1857 pin-plate watch s#8969 cased in hunting case possibly from the estate of Abraham Lincoln, 18S, very heavy coin silver recase with commemorative engraving on back, "Abr Lincoln House 1867," the case signed "FM," KWKS, WE-SSD, lever escapement, 7J, gilt P S Bartlett pin-plate model, s#8969; unfortunately, the case has been home to two other watch mvts in its time, but poses an interesting historical puzzle; one theory is out there about other such items so labeled as coming from, being found in, or being de-accessioned from Abraham Lincoln's home after his death; a further notion could be that such engraved commemoration represents a visit to the house; in either case, it makes the case most interesting, which now houses a period appropriate watch mvt from just before the Civil War; Lincoln had numerous watches, and presented a number of 20-size KW model Walthams during his presidency
