Parts- Pendulum - Very rare George P. Reed patent chronometer pendulum based on his patent granted September 23, 1890, US Patent #436,941, applied for November 6, 1899; the pendulum rod consists of a balance form weighted bimetallic split strip attached to a central ring, allowing for the raising or lowering of the center of gravity of the pendulum "bob" to correspond exactly with any temperature induced change of length in the rod owing to temperature changes in the ambient environment; this form and design is unique among compensating pendulums and presumably was designed because Reed felt that it would provide a substantially more accurate effect than standard designs, which are typically poorly constructed; the design, massive form and precision weighting reflect Reed's understanding of compensated balances in watches; length about 20 inches, circular bob over 6 inches in diameter
