GRO, excellent motion & poise, superb ruby duplex function, large escape wheel, oversized mvt, capped escapement, fine gilding, few plate scratches, beautifully blued maintaining power & springs, dial unfortunately restored overall, hands original, original case showing medium overall wear; this is a rare product from the son of John Arnold, chronometer maker, probably designed at first for a consular case more typical of his father’s manufacture, but it is interesting that the mvt was ultimately cased just prior to the successorship of Charles Frodsham to JR Arnold in 1842; the escapement action is superb and of rare form
