Condition Report For Lot# 346:
GRO, very fine escapement function, escapement in completely original condition, showing no evidence of alteration or adjustment; plates with good gilding, showing only a pair of fine scratches and very tiny spots of corrosion; the stop-works and other bright-work are oxide free, only a touch of dried oil on the former; the balance is true; the hairspring is not isochronal, but shows perfect original blue; the finely engraved original case shows light overall wear; the monogram escutcheon has been engraved most artistically, and does not appear to conceal any other or prior engraving, but it very well could, because of the cuvette evidence; the cuvette has been buffed in an attempt to remove an original inscription from Woonsocket, RI; when the person who was removing the inscription discovered that other details of the cuvette were being buffed off as well, they stopped, leaving the engine turned features of the cuvette worn away in spots, and the inscription still barely legible; hence the hypothesis that the escutcheon engraving was part of the same attempt to remove the personalization; the dial is perfect, although the seconds dial is rotated slightly and should be repositioned and affixed; the associated box fits the watch very well; a very important historical American watch in otherwise superb original condition
Estimate: $60000
